Job Overview: DCSD is seeking a qualified and dedicated Special Education Regional Lead Specialist to support and enhance our special education programs. The Special Education Lead will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, developing, and implementing inclusive education practices, and providing leadership in fostering an environment where all students can thrive. Responsibilities 1. Program Oversight:

  • Provide leadership and regional oversight under the direction of the Special Education Program Director for the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs in alignment with state and federal regulations.

  • Collaborate with school administrators and teachers to ensure effective delivery of services to students with special needs.

    1. Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal special education laws, regulations, and guidelines.

  • Facilitate problem solving discussions with IEP teams to ensure team consensus on issues regarding FAPE.

    1. IEP Coordination:
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance on the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students with disabilities.

  • Coach special education teachers in creating meaningful and measurable goals for students to ensure that IEP goals are effectively addressed in the classroom.

  • Collaborate with IEP Teams to address behavioral concerns and promote a positive and inclusive school culture.

    1. Professional Development:
  • Plan and facilitate professional learning opportunities for special education staff, general education teachers, and other relevant personnel on topics related to special education, inclusion, and effective teaching strategies for students with diverse learning needs.

  • Stay abreast of current trends, research, and best practices in special education to inform professional development initiatives.

    1. Collaboration:
  • Foster positive and collaborative relationships with parents, teachers, support staff, and community stakeholders.

  • Facilitate IEP meetings to ensure equity of voice and solution focused conversations to address student needs.

  • Collaborate with general education leadership to promote inclusive practices and a supportive learning environment for all students.

  • Provide consultation to teachers on differentiated instruction, accommodations, and behavior management strategies.

    1. Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to special education services and student outcomes.

  • Prepare and present reports to administrators, school board members, and other stakeholders as needed.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties. Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture. Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather, meet multiple demands from several people, and interact with the public and other staff.

  • Noise level is quiet to loud. Work may be indoors and/or outdoors. Work may be in non-air-conditioned rooms. Tobacco and alcohol-free environment. Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public. Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of student.

Special Qualification Desired: (Personal Qualities, Education, Skills Needed, Experience, Etc.)

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.

  • Iowa state certification in Special Education or related area.

  • Extensive experience in special education, including program development and implementation.

  • Experience with program design and implementation for students with intellectual disabilities and/ or behavior disabilities

  • Proven experience in working with students with diverse learning needs.

  • In-depth knowledge of Iowa state special education laws, regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Encourage pursuing as admininstrator degree
