Position Title: Specialist, Nursing Staff Development Department: Nursing Services Support Purpose: To facilitate development of a competent staff to improve organizational outcomes. To provides clinical leadership and knowledge in the practice of evidence based nursing to improve patient care, patient care outcomes, and for the delivery of safe patient care. Functions as a leader, educator, consultant, and patient advocate. Key accountabilities include: assessing learning needs related to staff performance; prioritizing learning activities; facilitating the adult learning process; assisting with initiating evidence-based and research projects that directly impact nursing care; facilitating adherence to standards to determine appropriateness and current nursing clinical practice outcomes processes, staff development, and quality management; assisting with development of mechanisms to evaluate learning outcomes; promoting staff personal and professional growth; fostering an environment of excellence which supports clinical knowledge, clinical inquiry, quality, and safety through the integration of relevant research/evidence based practice into nursing practice. Report To: Chief Nursing Services Officer Supervisory Responsibility: Direction: The job requires some accountability for scheduling, assigning or coordinating work. Employees check the quality of work and provide guidance, instruction, training and direction to others. Although the job does not require formal or official supervisory responsibility, the incumbent serves as group leader or acts in an informal "assistant supervisory" or "lead" role. In addition, the employee may be expected to provide information or suggestions on human resources matters. Materials Responsibility: Very Limited. Work requires very limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include personal work materials, supplies or equipment, or very small amounts of cash. The employee has a very limited or indirect amount of control over these resources. Although human error might require the repair or replacement of materials, usually the cost of correcting these errors is minor. The variety and volume of resources is also very limited. Problems associated with material resources are very uncomplicated. Key Relationship: Co-workers/Health System Employees, General Public/Visitors/Volunteers, Physicians/Medical Office Staff, Students/Interns/Residents/Outside Instructors, Patients, Families, and Significant Others POSITION SPECIFICATION Education: Master's Degree Field Of Study: Nursing Education Special Training: Certification in area of specialty preferred. Training Preferred: Licensure/Registration: Registered Nurse in Iowa & Illinois Experience: More than 3 years experience required. Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are often difficult or stressful in nature. Contact with others involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics. The job requires a high degree of interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations. Interactions involve gaining the agreement of others. Working Conditions: There is limited exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions. There are some health and safety risks. Position may require safety equipment and precautions.
