Principal Financial Group Actuarial or Financial Analyst - Variable Annuities in Des Moines, Iowa
What You'll Do
We’re looking for an Assistant Actuary or Financial Analyst V to join our Variable Annuities team. In this role, you’ll support product development and finance-related filing requirements of our popular Registered Index-Linked Annuities (RILA) product offering as well as our traditional variable annuities products! We're looking for someone who will:
Work collaboratively with actuarial and product teams to deliver on our growth strategy.
Support illustration needs and collaborate with teams from product, IT, and administration to ensure calculations are accurate.
Provide analysis and recommendations for actuarial assumption review, including emerging RILA experience and/or traditional VA block trends.
Ensure compliance with an ever-growing landscape of regulatory requirements.
Support and offer analysis for a variety of potential cross-team initiatives. Potentially including helping support claims management, data analysis, large case sale analysis, shareholder value, and more.

Who You Are
Bachelor's degree in math, actuarial science, finance or related field.
2+ years of actuarial work experience with attainment of Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) within one year in position OR 6+ years of relevant experience, pricing or coding experience is preferred.
Self motivated with excellent problem solving, leadership, and analytical skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills required.
Demonstrates the ability to embrace and understand the change process, and effectively guides others through change.
Knowledge of Excel and VBA required.
Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
Knowledge of Variable Annuities, or Registered Index-Linked Annuities (RILA) products.
Skill in R or SAS programming language (or similar – i.e. Python – with the ability to quickly learn R).
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$95200 - $182400 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments
This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
