Job Summary:

The Drake University Teaching and Learning Department invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor. The instructor will be responsible for teaching one section of a three-credit pre-service undergraduate/graduate course titled TESL 122/22: Teaching Linguistics and Language Structures to Multilingual Learners (the sections of these courses are cross-listed for both undergraduate and graduate students). This course is designed to develop both the linguistic and pedagogical knowledge that are considered essential for teachers of the English language to multilingual students. This course aims to build this knowledge from a content-based learning and systemic functional linguistics (SFL) perspective, and students will apply linguistics and grammar knowledge in the context of content and disciplinary language and skills. The instructor will be responsible for classroom instruction, facilitating course activities and projects and assessing and grading all related coursework. The available section meets Mondays 5-7:50pm.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Master’s degree or higher in Education

Preferred Qualifications:

· At least 3 years of K-12 TESL teaching experience

Job Duties:

  • 95% - Essential duties includes: · Serve as instructor of record for the course. · Utilize the provided syllabus and materials as the foundation for instruction. · Incorporate existing course objectives. · Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the course. · Maintain timely communication with students to assist them in achieving course objectives. · Monitor and document individual student progress. · Assess student work on assignments and their progress to meeting degree and program goals. - (Essential)
