Principal Financial Group Assistant Director- ERISA / Trust & Custody Consulting in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

This role is responsible for providing substantive technical advice and consultation regarding fiduciary, regulatory and operational matters pertaining to various non-qualified plans and trust and custody accounts serviced by Retirement and Income Solutions (RIS). You’ll maintain and support a suite of client agreements and forms, including various trust agreements, custody agreements and ancillary service agreements. Providing high level consultation on agreement provisions and negotiating agreements with clients' counsel, drafting and revising agreements as necessary.

You’ll also have the opportunity to:

  • Serve as a resource in identifying, interpreting, and communicating complex legislative, regulatory, and compliance issues that affect retirement documents.

  • Liasion for ERISA and other Trust and Custody regulatory questions that impact day to day plan and trust administration.

  • Evaluate the impact of all major changes in the law and regulations pertaining to the RIS business and advise on the effects of any such changes as they relate to both the operation and administration of retirement plans and trust and custody accounts, including any required changes to plan or trust documents.

  • Educate internal staff regarding changes in the law and regulations pertaining to retirement plans and trust and custody accounts.

  • Consult on routine and non-complex plan correction processes.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree or 8+ years equivalent experience required

  • 10+ years of retirement plan and/or trust and custody experience OR 4+ year’s employee retirement plan and/or trust and custody experience with a JD degree.

  • JD strongly preferred

  • Working knowledge of IRS and DOL correction programs strongly preferred

  • In- depth knowledge of qualified and non-qualified retirement document provisions.

  • Expertise and broad technical understanding of statutory and regulatory law contained within ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code and/or Trust and Custody experience.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, inter-personal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$123000 - $167000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
