Principal Financial Group Asst Director-Engineering in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for an Assistant Director of Engineering to join our Principal Asset Management - Client Experience team. In this leadership role, you will partner with our Marketing and Distribution leaders to deliver digital customer experiences across web, mobile and social channels. You will lead a team of engineers and coordinate the analysis, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of technical solutions. Our text stack includes: Next.JS, AWS, Python and Drupal.

Your day could look like this:

  • Partner with global Business Leaders, including Marketing and Distribution, to develop a strategic roadmap designed to drive revenue growth, improve customer and employee satisfaction as well as operational efficiency, and deliver new business capabilities.

  • Lead the technical team responsible for the Principalam.com implementations to deliver projects, enhancements, and perform day-to-day operational activities related to the Principalam.com platform.

  • Initiate and facilitate data-related discussions between different business functions, balance conflicting viewpoints, and achieve consensus with key business partners.

  • Coordinate with other technology teams in delivering wholistic journeys for the consumers of our digital experiences.

  • Uncover lucrative avenues for business expansion through ground breaking technology, and then take decisive action to capitalize on these opportunities.

  • Communicate technical concepts to business partners as well as business objectives to the technical team.

  • Evaluate new technology developments. Consult and communicate with business partners to understand business strategy and make recommendations on future technical trends/directions that encompass multiple systems and teams to meet business strategic direction.

  • Collaborate with other digital experience teams across Principal on larger strategic enterprise programs. Represent a point of view for Asset Management and our product(s) and spearhead work for enterprise programs.]Lead and coach teams with broad skills.

  • Raise the performance bar. Recognize people with exceptional talent and willingly move them throughout the organization.

Who You Are

  • You have a Bachelor's degree (preference in a computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field) or equivalent experience, plus 8+ years of relevant experience

  • You have experience supporting website initiatives and are customer focused

  • You are adaptable, flexible, innovative, influential, collaborative and have the ability to learn from experiences and setbacks.

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • Previous leadership experience

  • Hands on technical skills with cloud and content management solutions

  • Experience working in Asset Management

  • Experience in supporting sales/distribution or B2B channels

  • Experience supporting a global audience

  • Deep understanding of product dynamics and the impact on decisions and initiatives

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$137000 - $185000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
