Job Description

Description Overview-Operations Bureau

The Iowa Department of Revenue’s Operations Bureau within the Tax Management Division is currently seeking a Clerk Specialist to join the Registration team. The Operations Bureau handles the receipt of all paper tax returns and documents, oversees the customer service desk, and administers the Department’s taxpayer services call center.

The Tax Management Division (TMD) strives to be helpful to taxpayers by providing education and service so taxpayers can comply with tax filing and payment obligations. TMD has three business units/bureaus:

  • Operations

  • Compliance

  • Collections

  • In this position you will be responsible for:

  • Handle confidential data with discretion and follow documented procedures.

  • Review data for deficiencies or errors, correcting and verifying accuracy of data.

  • Utilize Google products and File Explorer (network drives and shared folders)

  • Process business tax permit applications, requests for changes, cancellations and third party forms

  • Make decisions based on strong understanding of filing requirements and agency tax systems.

  • Contact both internal and external customers to resolve issues and discrepancies in information provided.

  • Cross train with other departments for various data entry and mailroom functions

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following:

  • Experience using File Explorer and Google products (network drives and shared folders)

  • Experience contacting both internal and external customers to resolve issues and discrepancies in information provided.

  • Displays a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail and commitment by completing assignments efficiently with minimum supervision.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to three years of full-time clerical or closely related work;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting graduation from high school, G.E.D. equivalency or satisfactory completion of a recognized correspondence or formal job-related training course at the high school or equivalent level such as that offered by WIN, OEO, CEP, CIVEC or similar programs, for one year only of the required experience;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting nine months or thirty semester hours coursework in an accredited business school, college or university for each year of the required experience;

OR

certification from the State of Iowa Administrative Assistant Certificate Program will substitute for six months of the required experience;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of eighteen months of full time experience as a resident treatment worker or Clerk–Advanced.
