Job Description

The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman (OSLTCO) seeks to hire a part-time, temporary Community Based Information Specialist for a grant-funded program focused on Residential Care Communites (RCC). This program has two main components, 1) increasing strategic communication and education about the OSLTCO, resident rights, and abuse to RCCs and 2) establishing a statewide family council/engagement program to help inform, empower, and impact systemic education for this population.

The position will begin in January 2025 and continue through the end of the grant period (September 2025), pending satisfactory performance.

Responsibilities:

The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for working under the direction of the OSLTCO Executive Officer 2 to:

Work within an established budget to create and/or utilize any needed marketing and/or educational materials pertaining to grant-related efforts.

Schedule and travel statewide to present to RCCs, informing them of the OSLTCO, resident rights, and abuse.

Establish and carry out a statewide family council/engagement program to include, at a minimum, creation of a virtual platform, marketing to increase family councils in Iowa, leading regular meetings with family councils, and maintaining a list of family councils.

Assist with data collection for evaluation of work performed to include, at a minimum, tracking marketing efforts, number of presentations given, number of family councils participated in, and attendance at program events.

Collaborate with OSLTCO staff as needed and create processes to ensure continuation of efforts upon the grant's completion.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify:

1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications.

2) Four years of full-time work experience in planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking.

3) A total of four years of education (as described in number one) and/or full-time experience (as described in number two), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time.

Applicants for positions in the Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman must sign a statement showing they have no conflict of interest as indicated in the Older Americans Act.

Must possess a valid driver's license and proof of motor vehicle insurance. Travel is required.

Previous experience in long-term care or in a healthcare setting preferred
