DES MOINES WATER WORKS Concrete Worker in DES MOINES, Iowa
JOB SUMMARY
: Under general supervision of the Supervisor of Water Distribution, performs skilled general concrete pouring and finishing work and assists in performing distribution system maintenance work. Is on-call on a rotational basis a week at a time for emergency repair work as required.
**A concrete skills performance test will be required as part of the hiring/evaluation process.**EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
: - Breaks out and removes concrete and asphalt with tools and equipment. - Establishes line and grade, and does rough and final grading, selects and orders material and estimates the time required for various jobs. - Places forms, pours and finishes concrete, and saws and seals control joints. - Prepares reports and records. - Ensures vehicles are stocked with proper tools and supplies. Inspects tools to ensure safe operating condition. - Coordinates with crews and ready-mix plant to ensure sufficient amount of concrete to avoid short load fees and route trucks in efficient manner. - Assists in installing taps, services, valves, fire hydrants, pipe, and repairing main breaks using required hand tools, equipment and material as required. - Cleans up excavated work areas, removes debris, spreads dirt, and sows grass seed. - Gathers, cleans, and loads tools. - Oversees field operations of crew in absence of crew leader. - Performs other related duties of similar nature.
