The Personal Loan and Consumer Collections Services Support Section is part of the Consumer Lending Division of the Legal Department. This Section provides legal support for originations and servicing of personal lines and loans and student loans, as well as collections and loss prevention for those businesses, plus credit cards, retail services, and overdraft. We are seeking an experienced consumer lending attorney to join a team of lawyers and paralegals who provide legal support for a range of matters including sales, marketing, product development, loan origination, loan servicing, collections/recovery, and issue management/remediation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing legal support of Personal Loan originations (in collaboration with a senior attorney on the team) and oversight of the development, review and implementation of marketing materials/activities, product pricing models, fair lending models and reviews, and compensation models.

  • Providing risk management support, legal guidance, and leadership to assist business leaders manage operational, reputational, and regulatory risks.


Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney

  • Active State Bar membership

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to analyze legal and regulatory issues in area of practice and provide effective advice to clients on complex legal matters

  • Extensive experience conducting research and providing counsel and guidance regarding complex legal issues

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work while handling multiple matters

  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment with a high degree of collaboration

  • Effective in building partnerships, functioning well with project teams, and working for the success of the team

Other Desired Qualifications

  • A strong understanding of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act/Regulation B, the Truth-in-Lending Act/Regulation Z, the Fair Credit Reporting Act/Regulation V, and federal and state UDAAP/UDAP provisions

  • Consumer lending experience with a particular emphasis on unsecured personal loans

  • Ability to evaluate impacts to the supported lines of business based upon changes in laws/regulations, and develop response

  • Candidates must be able to assume responsibility quickly and have the ability to work in a complex environment requiring a high degree of collaboration and across multiple jurisdictions

  • Ability to execute in a fast paced, high demand environment

  • The right candidate will also be capable of providing direction, guidance, training, and resources to paralegals and/or applicable/relevant support staff

  • Experience building partnerships, functioning well with project teams, and working efficiently and for the success of the team while balancing multiple priorities

  • Ability to work independently, proactively, innovatively, and creatively while exercising sound judgment and following through to successful conclusions
