Join the State of Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) as a Custodial Service Coordinator!

Are you a dedicated professional with a keen eye for detail and a passion for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and functionality? The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role ofCustodial Service Coordinator (CSC)for the State Capitol Complex and Iowa Laboratories Facility. This position offers an exciting opportunity to oversee custodial and sanitation tasks, ensuring our facilities are safe, clean, and operational.

Position Overview:As the Custodial Service Coordinator, you will support the supervisor in overseeing building custodial and sanitation tasks, ensuring overall cleanliness and operability of the facilities. You will inspect services performed by internal staff and contracted vendors, serve as the point of contact for facility customer requests, and utilize data reports to make informed recommendations on equipment life cycle, costs, hours, services, market rates, quotes, and key performance indicators. Additionally, you will assist in the inspection, reporting, and completion of repairs to the building and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Facility Maintenance and Cleaning:

  • Perform cleaning tasks to maintain a sanitary, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment, including cleaning offices, stairwells, common areas, restrooms, conference/training rooms, storage, elevators, etc.

  • Dust, clean, and polish furniture, hand railings, counters, wall hangings, shelving, window/door ledges, and casings.

  • Clean sinks, mirrors, porcelain, partitions, and kitchenette/restroom fixtures using approved cleansers and sanitizing solutions.

  • Replenish paper and plastic products and remove/dispose of various categories of waste.

Inspection and Reporting:

  • Inspect services performed by internal staff and contracted vendors, ensuring quality and compliance with standards.

  • Serve as the point of contact for support of Capitol Complex and Iowa Laboratory facilities customer requests.

  • Provide recommendations to the supervisor based on data reviews concerning equipment life cycle, costs, hours, services, market rates, quotes, and other key performance indicators.

Work Order Management:

  • Input, receive, close, and manage work requests through various communication channels.

  • Prioritize and delegate work requests based on urgency, aiming to complete all requests within 24 hours.

Minor Repairs and Emergency Response:

  • Make minor repairs to tables, restroom fixtures, and custodial equipment, and replace lights.

  • Conduct safety and security checks, reporting and documenting findings.

  • Respond to emergency and weather-related events, including applying sand and ice melt, and removing snow, ice, sand, and debris to ensure access and safety.

  • Serve as the Supervisor’s (PSS) point of contact during emergencies and weather-related events.

Event Coordination and Training:

  • Reserve equipment and set up tables and chairs for events.

  • Complete purchase card and Level 1 procurement training within the first six months and participate in professional training as directed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in custodial services and facility maintenance.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to support and oversee a team.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in using work order systems and related software.

  • Ability to perform minor repairs and handle emergency responses effectively.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Graduation from high school or HSED (GED) and one year of full-time work experience in commercial building maintenance.

  • A total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where 30 semester hours of accredited post-high vocational training or course work equals one year of full-time experience
