The Iowa Judicial Branch is looking to fill a Director of Judicial Education and Training.

Position Summary

This is a highly responsible administrative position that oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of training and professional development for all Iowa Judicial Branch employees, including judges, magistrates, juvenile court officers, clerks of court, and other administrative staff. The Director supervises a division that assists subject matter experts to define, develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programming to meet the needs of the Judicial Branch. The Director is directly responsible to the State Court Administrator.


Develops a strategic plan for the direction of education and training for the judicial branch. Provides administrative guidance necessary for the operation of the educational program; recommends budget and staffing patterns

Determines scope and emphasis of education and training offered in the judicial branch and develops standards and guidelines for education and training.

Oversees education governance for all major job types within the judicial branch. Plans and directs the preparation of program content curriculum.

Guides development and implementation of curricula for all employees. Monitors educational effectiveness and use of best practices in adult education and delivery methods to improve outcomes. Establishes performance standards and requirements.

Supervises and evaluates the work of subordinate staff, recommends personnel action related to selection, assigns task and evaluates performance, and takes corrective action. Continually works to identify and develop faculty who can deliver training in accordance with best practice for adult education.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university; considerable experience in the design and development of educational programs; experience in a court-related environment highly preferred.
