Emerging Bilingual Associate

JOB SUMMARY

The emerging bilingual associate works closely with students that have been identified as emerging bilingual learners throughout the school day to help the students learn and succeed.

QUALIFICATIONS

A. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Able to react quickly and calmly when an emergency arises.

  • Ability to explain and participate in daily activities.

  • Must be able to interact in a positive manner with students, faculty, parents and other staff members.

  • Effective listening skills.

  • Bilingual Spanish and English required.

B. Education

  1. High School diploma or G.E.D required.

C. Experience

  1. Some experience working with children is helpful, but not required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Ability to relate successfully with students, staff, families, and the community.

  • Ability to work as an advocate for the student and a liaison with the student, teacher(s), and parents.

  • Ability to become knowledgeable about and apply classroom/building procedures and district policies.

  • Ability to follow directions and to work independently.

  • Take directions from principals, EB teachers and classroom teachers.

  • Work collaboratively with school staff.

  • Interpret verbal communication – in school or over the phone with parents.

  • Translate classroom assignments, documents, etc. for students.

  • Translate written communication for parents.

  • Assist with individual students or groups in classrooms as directed.

  • Assist at registration and parent/teacher conferences.

  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Encourage the student’s independence within the school setting.

  • Be a cultural resource.

  • Complete all training as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
