Responsibilities

Principal Financial Group is looking for a dynamic and creative individual to join our Principal Global Investors (PGI) business segment as a Financial Analyst V or Assistant Financial Director for our Financial Planning & Analysis team. This team provides an opportunity to learn all the aspects of the PGI operating model from the multi-boutique investment management structure through the funds platforms and distribution services and has the responsibility for understanding and communicating how strategic initiatives will impact PGI’s performance to senior leadership.

This team combines historical trends with forward-looking commentary from business partners to develop insights, integrates those findings into financial projections, and communicates those results to the CFO. These insights are derived through thoughtful partnership with key business partners; rigorous financial analysis of actual performance; extending those insights into the long-term forecast process; driving the capital management process; developing models to understand and integrate strategic initiatives into the forecasting process and measuring success after implementation; supporting M&A activity; and reviewing and designing the alignment and compensation programs utilized throughout PGI, including our multi-boutique operating model.

In this role, your primary focus will be supporting M&A activity and leading the strategic initiative process within PGI. You will be integral in:

  • Analyzing financial projections related to new initiatives and M&A activity.

  • Assessing the long-term potential of strategic initiatives and high-profile projects.

  • Participating in the due diligence process of potential acquisitions.

  • Effectively challenging assumptions by providing constructive feedback to key partners.

  • Holding business partners accountable for producing results and staying within agreed upon budgets.

  • Enhancing the communication process related to strategic initiatives to provide senior leadership visibility into the status of active projects as well as the pipeline of potential initiatives to improve decision-making.

  • Collaborating with Product Development to facilitate more effective deployment of seed capital to promote future growth across multiple platforms and boutiques.

  • Partnering and consulting with leaders across PGI on strategic projects and targeted initiatives to enhance and drive results.

This role requires strong collaboration across the team as well as other PGI departments and PFG business units. The ideal candidate will enjoy the opportunity to challenge the status quo and search for opportunities to leverage innovation for efficiencies. This role also has the potential to expand to a leadership position with 1 or 2 direct reports over time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting or related experience required

  • 7+ years of experience preferred.

  • Master’s Degree, CFA, or CPA preferred.

  • Proven track record in providing corporate M&A support required.

  • Excellent communication skills and experience presenting financial results required.

  • Experience managing projects requiring inputs from multiple teams required.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize several projects at the same time.

  • Experience driving and evaluating cost-benefit analyses preferred.

  • Ability to influence peers and leaders to drive change.

  • Must have strong problem solving, leadership and analytical skills.

  • Must have good interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrates the ability to accept and adapt to a changing environment.

  • Experience leading a team of direct reports preferred.

  • Strong Excel and system capabilities required.
