Principal Financial Group Financial Analyst, Workplace Benefits in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

Workplace Benefits is looking for two Financial Analysts to join the team! Currently, we’re undertaking several exciting modernization and transformation efforts with a focus on actuarial pricing and inforce management. As a Financial Analyst, you’ll play an important part in evolving our use of new tools, processes, and data to drive enhanced growth and profitability. While working on a collaborative team, you’ll assist in the analysis, implementation, and maintenance of pricing for several group insurance products.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Become an expert in expense analysis for pricing multiple group products. Streamline processes, access new data sources, and create consistent tools for deeper analysis

  • Coordinate the preparation of state rate filing materials and responses, working with both compliance and actuarial. Assist with state reporting requirements

  • Help to modernize the use of data within new sale pricing processes, utilizing a combination of platforms and programming tools (i.e., SAS, Excel, R, Power BI, Snowflake, etc.)

  • Complete assigned projects, including gathering and organizing information and statistical and numerical analysis, with consideration to timing required and quality of work documentation needed; report on progress and final results. Projects will be under the minimum direction of a supervisor

  • Provide similar technical assistance to other departments involving research, statistical and financial analysis. Solve questions and problems. Present results to the appropriate audience.

  • Work towards self-development by expanding knowledge of department, line of business, and industry.

  • Collaborate with several business partners including product, underwriting, finance, and technology teams

  • Build consistencies across products and help to convert more processes to gain efficiencies

  • Develop and maintain tools to help our business partners deliver renewal information to the brokers and customers

  • Gain knowledge of group insurance products, pricing, and new business and renewal processes

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in math, actuarial science, finance or equivalent experience

  • 1+ year of experience in finance or analytics is preferred

  • Strong problem solving, attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills

  • Good oral and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills

  • Ability to accept and adapt to a changing environment

  • Proficiency in programming languages is preferred

Skills that Will Help You Stand Out

  • SQL experience with PROC SQL

  • Work experience using SAS Enterprise Guide

  • Power BI

  • Advanced Excel knowledge

  • Database knowledge

  • Snowflake, SAS, R, or other programming languages and tools

  • Professional experience with Group/Workplace Benefits or within the financial service industry

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$57700 - $77900 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers an in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangement in Des Moines, IA.
