Job Description:

At Regions, our Financial Crimes Currency Transaction Report (CTR) Specialist supports the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) Monitoring and Reporting Operations Department by collecting, verifying, validating, analyzing, reporting, and maintaining transactional and customer information for the timely reporting of CTR’s for cash transactions greater than $10,000. Associates at this level will have advanced knowledge of CTR regulations and requirements and may act as a resource to junior CTR Specialists. This role may be asked to participate in special projects and must be able to adjust and prioritize work to achieve established department goals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Researches banking transactions and determines whether the transactions are reportable according to federal regulations

  • Researches and determines whether customers are eligible for a currency transaction report exemption according to federal regulations and Regions' internal policies

  • Corresponds with branch personnel regarding individual transaction activity and gathers information

  • Identifies and refers possible suspicious and/or fraudulent activity

  • Reviews data for incomplete, inaccurate, or false information

  • Completes data entry related tasks

  • Analyzes internal and external data for potential risks to the bank, preparing reports and appropriately following through on actions needed

  • Meets required production goals set by the department with a low rate of production errors

  • Identifies areas of improvement and provides practical solutions

  • Offers advice and guidance to junior specialists, assisting in the development of necessary skills and the promotion of continuous improvement initiatives

This position requires the tracking of time and is eligible for overtime hours worked in excess of 40 per week under the Fair Labor Standards Act.


  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Three (3) years retail banking experience or related

  • Advanced knowledge of CTR requirements and regulations


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

  • Knowledge of the bank's mainframe systems and applications

  • Experience in a branch environment or with BSA/AML, Fraud, or Corporate Security Investigations

  • Experience with case management systems

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to learn additional systems as needed

  • Ability to research, analyze data, and derive facts

  • Ability to work under moderate guidance

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

  • Strong verbal, written communication, and organizational skills

  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation

Candidates with previous experience within a branch environment is preferred for this role.

Compensation Details

Pay ranges are job specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions. Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. As these factors vary by individuals, pay will also vary among individual associates within the same job.

The target information listed below is based on the national range and level of the position.
