Principal Financial Group Internal Controls Manager in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

Join our dynamic Benefits and Protection Finance & Accounting team as an Internal Controls Manager focused on internal controls. We're dedicated to maintaining financial integrity and transparency within our organization, offering you the opportunity to make a significant impact.

As an Internal Controls Manager, you will play a pivotal role in our financial controls and reporting team. Collaborating closely with business partners and peers across various business units, you'll work directly with the Director-Accounting and the Chief Accounting Officer of Benefits and Protection. This is a process/controls manager role and is not a people manager role, at this time.

Responsibilities:

  • Enhance Control Structure and Compliance Monitoring: Partner with business leaders to strengthen control structures and monitoring processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and organizational risk frameworks – including Sarbanes-Oxley.

  • Assess Risks and Evaluate Control Effectiveness: Conduct thorough risk assessments and evaluate the effectiveness of controls, promptly addressing any deficiencies and collaborating on remediation plans.

  • Drive Operational Excellence Initiatives: Lead initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, innovate processes, and drive transformative change through system enhancements, process optimizations, and other operational excellence projects.

  • Manage Stakeholder Relationships: Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including business leaders, process owners, and auditors, to ensure alignment and collaboration on internal control matters.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience

  • 6+ years of relevant experience required

Job Level

We’ll consider talent at the next level with the right experiences and skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years of relevant experience required

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • Big 4 Public Accounting experience is ideal

  • CPA or other applicable certifications preferred

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$106000 - $145000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangements. You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
