The Iowa Judicial Branch is looking to fill a Juvenile Court Specialist 1 to assist the state. Juvenile Court Specialist 1 position in the Polk County Juvenile Court Services Office.

Starting salary is $1,246.40 biweekly or $32,406.40 annually.


The primary job duties include a variety of clerical, customer service and data entry functions. Some of the specific duties may consist of recording and updating information in ICIS, tracking program information and provide follow up as necessary, documenting client compliance and completion or program/service, maintaining statistical information and preparing standard reports, and assisting JCOs in gathering necessary information.

Some additional duties may consist of coordinating restitution and community service programs, supervising delinquent youths at job sites, transporting youth, and conducting social skill and diversion groups for delinquent youth.

The Juvenile Court Specialist I will serve Polk County.

Judicial Branch Position Number: D5 13078-002

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in social work, sociology, psychology, criminology, education or related program.

Two (2) years of experience working with at-risk youth required.

At the discretion of the appointing authority additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education. Or, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor's Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of professional experience. Education cannot substitute customer service experience.

Possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.

Preferred Qualifications: Above qualifications plus a four year college degree in social sciences and/or criminal justice related fields. Two years' experience working with adolescents including directly supervising and transporting delinquent youth. Training and experience with Motivational Interviewing and Best Practices is a plus.
