Dart Part-Time Mobility Services Eligibility Coordinator in Des Moines, Iowa

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) is seeking a part-time Mobility Services Eligibility Coordinator. The Mobility Services Eligibility Coordinator (MSEC) is responsible for managing DART’s eligibility certification for individuals applying for public transportation services using complementary Paratransit service as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). The MSEC will serve as the primary person at DART to ensure compliance with ADA regulations and carry out ongoing responsibilities under the ADA. The MSEC will review ADA paratransit application materials, and professional verification forms to determine eligibility for ADA paratransit transportation service. The MSEC is also responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and providing final transportation eligibility determinations to the client. The ADA certification process may include some in-person or telephone interviews or further assessment.

PAY: $25/HR

HOURS: Part-time, Day shift hours

Essential Functions of this Position:

  • Determines final eligibility based upon the application and professional verification information.

  • Could conduct in-person interviews to assess mobility capabilities and review any supplemental information provided.

  • May determine what functional assessments the applicant will be required to undergo.

  • Provide written eligibility determination documentation to Client within ADA required time frame.

  • Reads and interprets ADA paratransit applications and forms.

  • Review application paperwork, ensure completeness and follow up on assessments, as needed.

  • Provide further written documentation to Client upon request.

  • Assist the Mobility Services Manager in identifying process improvement opportunities.

  • Apply information obtained to determine applicant’s capability to independently ride fixed route transportation.

  • Provide data-entry and eligibility letter generation.

  • Participate in staff meetings with Mobility Services Manager and/or client.

  • Participate in community outreach and education as needed.

  • Participate in initial and on-going ADA training to remain current with ADA regulations and best practices.

  • Complete all necessary reports, paperwork and maintain on-going applicant tracking logs and reports for Eligibility and clients.

  • Manage recertification process which includes notifications to clients regarding eligibility renewal, database management, communication with DART’s Call Center Supervisor, coordinating communication with Marketing team regarding recertification website messaging, etc.

  • Build rapport and communicate effectively with Management and client personnel to include support staff and applicant while providing high quality customer service.

  • Participate in appeals process, upon request.

  • Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with individuals, support Staff and caregivers.

  • Work with Mobility Services Manager and the client to follow through on service issues, troubleshooting problems, concerns, complaints and training.

  • May be required to take on special assignments as directed by the Mobility Services Manager or Transportation Director. This may include working with Managed Care Organizations (MCO’s) on service eligibility.

    Education and/or Experience:

  • High school Diploma required Some college preferred

  • HR generalist, HR specialist, call center supervisor or ADA compliance coordinator

  • Previous ADA eligibility certification processing and ADA knowledge preferred

  • Must have basic computer skills

  • Previous customer service experience preferred

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

    This position has no supervisory responsibility

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    On a normal workday, this position requires:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and/or walking

  • Extensive use of hands, fingers and arms in operations requiring constant handling of paper documents, computing and entering data using a keyboard and two-way radio

  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less to read and enter numerical data

  • The ability to hear normal verbal conversation with or without corrective devices to communicate with co-workers and customers

  • The ability to speak and read the English language clearly and concisely

  • Routine lifting of objects under 10 pounds; occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Primary work location is in a general office environment, heated during the winter and cooled in the summer. Occasionally exposed to disagreeable elements such as heat, cold, dampness, fumes, noise, etc.
