Co-op services Credit Union Payroll Specialist I in Des Moines, Iowa

Our Payroll team is relocating to Des Moines / Clive and we are seeking a talented Payroll Specialist I to perform tasks to establish and maintain employee/payroll records as well as payroll processing. Duties include checking and auditing timekeeping records for compliance with established standards, maintaining time and attendance records, approving direct deposit and tax forms, and miscellaneous changes.

What You Can Look Forward to

  • Process employee payroll data, time and attendance system, including but not limited to getting approval and updating payroll records.

  • Verify and process 401(k) deductions.

  • Process and transmit payroll to vendor, including verifying changes and review for errors.

  • Maintain employee entitlement balances.

  • Assist/support employees in regards to HR/Payroll inquiries.

  • Calculate wages, overtime and deductions to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws.

  • Create payroll reports using current HRIS report writer.

  • Process garnishments and support orders.

  • Responsible for reporting risks that are identified to the appropriate team and/or management. Additionally, responsible for managing, monitoring and reporting risks within the scope of your work area, to include, but not limited to Information Security risks.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • 2 years of experience in payroll processing and payroll changes or 3 years combination of payroll and human resources experience.

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Understand and know payroll process as well as timesheet calculations.

  • Knowledge of payroll systems.

  • Knowledgeable and up to date with payroll laws and regulations affecting our company.

  • Understands accounting and general ledger processes.

  • Understand garnishments, levies, and support orders.

  • Spreadsheet and word processing skills.

  • Communication skills that demonstrate good command of words as well as pleasant telephone manner.

  • Operation of a personal computer using Microsoft Office.

  • Must be able to work with deadlines and prioritize workload.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to our customers.

  • Be able to be productive in a fast paced environment.

  • Strong attention to detail.
