Distinguishing Features of the Class

The Aquatics Intern will assist with the coordination, planning, and implementation of aquatics and recreation programs and events. This internship provides hands-on experience in aquatic operations, customer service, program administration, and special event organization, while meeting the requirements of a college internship. The position is designed to offer learning opportunities related to recreation management, programming, and public service in a dynamic, customer-focused environment.

Duration: 3 to 4 months

Tentative Start Date: May 2025

Work Hours: Up to 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Recreation Manager and Aquatic Supervisors, the Aquatics Intern will support the day-to-day operations of aquatics programs, recreation activities, and special events. This includes customer service, program development, event coordination, and administrative duties. The role requires a strong ability to work with both children and adults, attention to detail, and the ability to contribute positively to the team.

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Graduation from high school and working toward a bachelor's or graduate degree with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or have graduated in the last 12 months in a related field; and

  • Previous experience in customer service is required .

  • Previous experience in parks, recreation, or aquatics is preferred but not required .

  • Basic knowledge of aquatic safety practices and recreation program planning is a plus

Required Special Qualifications

  • Certifications :

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.

  • Ability to obtain certifications if necessary, during the internship.

  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

  • Aquatic Program Support : Assist in the planning, implementation, and supervision of aquatic activities, including swim lessons, aquatic fitness classes, and special water events.

  • Customer Service : Provide excellent customer service to program participants and the public, including managing pool pass sales, registrations, and general inquiries.

  • Event Planning : Assist in the organization and coordination of aquatic and recreational special events , ensuring smooth operations and participant satisfaction.

  • Administrative Duties : Support the completion of attendance sheets, incident reports, accident reports, and daily record-keeping.

  • Marketing and Communication : Contribute to the creation of marketing materials and assist with promoting programs via social media, flyers, and other communication channels.

  • Program Materials & Inventory : Assist in the procurement and management of program supplies and materials; ensure that inventory is tracked and managed properly.

  • Facility Maintenance : Help prepare and maintain recreational and aquatic facilities, ensuring they are safe and ready for program use.

  • Concessions Management : Assist with ordering and inventory control for the concession stand during program and event operations.

  • Training and Development : Participate in training sessions, assist in preparing in-service agendas, and provide feedback to improve department processes and operations.
