UnityPoint Health Registered Nurse-Organ Transplant in Des Moines, Iowa

Responsible for assisting the physician and nursing personnel with direct patient care Pre and Post patients, This person will coordinate and assist with Transplant team involved daily. Communicate effectively with other peers for continuity of care. Maintain satisfactory relations with other departments and units. Maintain confidential electronic employee medical records. Maintain satisfactory relations with all departments and units in accordance with mission, vision and core values of UnityPoint Health – DM and Methodist Medical Center. Perform other tasks as assigned and required, both administrative and clinical.

+ + Be a proactive ambassador for UnityPoint Health-DM.

  • Examine and assess ill patients and determine urgency of care. Order necessary tests, assist with clinics, monitor and enter lab results.

  • Assist with listing patients for transplant.

  • Patient education

  • Authorizations for tests and procedures

  • Patient medication refills

  • Patient correspondence and phone calls

  • Assist with Pre and Post-transplant patients and multidisciplinary teams involved as necessary

  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records on computer and written as needed.

  • Communicate to physicians, co-workers, patients, visitors and other departments in a professional manner.

  • Accurately and promptly implement physicians’ orders.

  • Maintain a professional approach with confidence: remain resourceful and calm in emergencies; display concern and initiative.

  • Ability to apply professional nursing skills.

  • Assume responsibility for own continued professional growth.

  • Ability to properly use office and medical equipment such as: computer, fax machine, multi-stage copiers and telephones.

  • Maintain confidentiality, composure and professionalism at all times.

  • Express ideas clearly and concisely in written and verbal form.

  • Make independent nursing judgements.

  • Utilize critical thinking in making independent judgment, maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.

  • Consistently utilize a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served.

  • Document patient care and patient response to nursing intervention in a clear, concise, legible manner, according to policy/procedure.

Minimum Requirements

Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

RN equivalent

Experience:

Previous clinical Experience preferred/desirable.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current Iowa licensure in good standing to practice as a registered nurse. Licenses and certifications must be maintained.

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Multicultural sensitivity.

Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.

Customer/patient focused.

Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental, or own vehicle.
