PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIP TO TOTAL ORGANIZATION: Provide efficient and accurate coordination of all patient transfer requests to UPH-DM from outlying hospitals. Creating a reliable and professional communication link between UPH-DM and the sending facilities. REPORTS TO: Emergency Communications Manager SUPERVISES: None

Receives, coordinates and records all patient transfer requests from referring facilities to IMMC, ILH and Blank Children's Hospitals. Must have a working knowledge of UPH-DM hospitals, physicians, nursing units, and bed control policies Exercise good judgment in prioritizing and expediting calls and contacting the appropriate physicians, nursing units or departments. Works in a collaborative way with both internal and external customers (C) Utilizes available resources appropriately (C) Serves as a resource for both internal and external customers.(C) Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations. (C) Enter real time information regarding patient transfers and patient information. Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other's views, gives and welcome feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest. (C) Conduct is courteous, helpful and professional at all times. (C) OTHER FUNCTIONS: The following are performed on an as needed basis: This position may be assigned to back up the EMS/LifeFlight Dispatcher if necessary Performs functions other than described when requested or due to extenuating circumstances. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Registered Nurse EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years ED or ICU nursing experience. Working knowledge of computers with basic proficiency is required. Ability to multi-task is required. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse. MENTAL/COGNITIVE DEMANDS: Ability to project a compassionate, professional and calm image while under pressure: ability to problem solve, resolve conflict and think analytically. Ability to organize, prioritize and exercise good time management. Must be a team player and have strong interpersonal skills. Excellent listening and people skills required. Possess the ability to understand and support both the Health System and serve as liaison between the Health System, physician, external and internal customers. Support staff information center for all departments, physicians and callers. Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with people of diverse professional, educational and lifestyle background. Normal hearing and vision or equivalent with correction Must possess critical thinking skills. Ability to hear, read, write, speak and understand fluent English. Understand oral and written instructions and communicate quickly, clearly and effectively. Requires ability to identify and prioritize workload without direct supervision in a quick efficient manner. Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with others

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

Qualifications: Current active Iowa License to practice as a RN. Minimum of 3-5 years acute RN experience.

Department of Labor Level III (Medium) Work. Candidates must successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment strength and agility test at Medium Level of Work.

*PLEASE NOTE: All newly licensed RNs with less than six months of RN experience and who are interested in this department or any other Acute RN role within UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, are encouraged and required to participate in the RN Residency program.
