Job Description

HII-Technical Solutions is currently looking for a Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS) Systems Engineer to support the Air National Guard (ANG) and Distributed Training Operations Center (DTOC) in Des Moines, Iowa. The SCARS sustainment Initiative calls for a Simulator Common Architecture (SCA) across the Air Force's training portfolio. The DTOC has been defined as a partner in this effort. As the SCARS Engineer, you will be on the front line to help scope, define and engineer future SCARS implementation activities for the DTOC sustainment initiatives. The SCARS Engineer will be required to work with the SCARS PM and DTOC engineering team to identify future manpower/funding requirements related to the DTOC SCARS activities and capabilities. You will also provide planning and integration activities related to the integration and maintenance of new and existing SCARS Standards Maintenance Process (SMP) requirements.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Responsibilites include:

  • Attend and represent the DTOC at all E-SCARS Engineering Capability Boards (SECB) for enterprise support

  • Collaborate with Headquarters Air Force (HAF) SCARS team and SCARS Prime contractor

  • Collaborate with DTOC Senior OTTI/Technical Advisor

  • Collaborate with DTOC SCARS Project Manager and act as the alternate POC in the PMs absence.

  • Provide/recommend solutions to ANG OTS contractor and government HAF OTI Mission Network Program Manager

  • Help design, organize and manage operations to facilitate a strong cybersecurity posture.

  • Support the DTOC in delivery of Increment Implemenaton Plans (IIPs).

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in realted field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.

  • 4 or more years engineering background, preferred combination of network and system administration

  • Clearance: Must possess and maintain an active Secret Clearence

  • Must have and maintain Security Plus Certification

Preferred Requirements


  • Knowledge of networking, operations and associated peripheral equipment: LANs, WANs, remote access systems, routers, bridges, copper and fiber cabling, and firewalls

  • Experience researching new technologies to help solve exisiting technical problems or shortfalls

  • Experience understanding the connection and operation of distributed sites and simulator systems for the purpose of conducting Distributed Mission Operations (DMO) events

  • Experience working in a DoD environment.
