What You'll Do
We’re looking for a Software Engineer I to join our team here at Principal. Focus on growing as an engineer, learning existing tools, resources and processes. With guidance, develop productivity skills by learning source control, editors, the build system, and other tools as well as automated testing best practices.
Capable of taking well-defined sub-tasks and completing these tasks. Developing the ability to write readable, maintainable, supportable code. Begin to learn security polices and standards
Participates in code/design reviews and learning technical design. Begin learning business and technical strategies.
Stay current and engaged on industry trends.
Assist in communicating technical concepts to business stakeholders as well as communicate business objectives to the technical team.
Become proficient in writing unit tests and testing the code as a customer in a non-production environment.
Who You Are
We are looking for someone with :
Associate's or bachelor's degree, preference in a computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field or equivalent experience
Ability to obtain certification(s) in an IT related field is a plus
Basic planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and communication skills required
Proficiency with database applications, knowledge of mainframe, distributed and/or web programming language
Excellent time management skills preferred
Must have the desire and ability to learn new technology and continuously grow
Ability to work on cross-functional teams and collaborate with both IT and non-IT partners
Willingness to leave the application better than you found it. Read and update system documentation.
Ability to resolve technical problems with their workstation and become self-reliant.
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$60000 - $82000 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
