Principal Supplier Manager (Market Data) in Des Moines, Iowa

As a Market Data Supplier Manager in the asset management division, Principal Global Investors, you'll drive and ensure consistency in the application of supplier risk management activities for large, complex, or high risk suppliers as well as help mature our Market Data Supplier Management program and strategies! You'll partner with business partners across the investment teams as well as shared service functions such as Finance, Operations, Information Technology, Data Governance, Global Procurement and Legal teams to monitor ongoing risk and supplier performance management for assigned suppliers. You'll manage and resolve issues between the business and supplier, track and report on supplier metrics related to the supplier's risk profile and performance and ensure engagement with the supplier adds value and is effective and efficient!

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work within a fast paced, energetic team which supports ever-changing and complex investment data needs.

  • Develop partnerships with external suppliers to enrich relationships and improve and enhance our data strategies.

  • Collaborate with business partners, global procurement and legal in negotiating various contracts to mitigate business risk and reach beneficial terms.

  • Communicate and interpret obligations to business partners stemming from supplier contracts and act as point of contact for data vendors.

  • Support requests for new services, renewals, and terminations and proactively communicate status updates

  • Work closely with internal partners and conduct business reviews to proactively find opportunities for savings, scale, efficiencies and alignment with data strategies and high level initiatives

  • Assist with implementation of market data vendor management tool including establishing future business workflows and controls.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus 4+ years related experience working in data operations, finance, supplier management or sales/support functions at a market data provider required

  • Knowledge of Financial Services’ Market Data and Index Providers or experience with Bloomberg, FactSet, ICE, Ratings Agencies, or other market data suppliers preferred.

  • Ability to interpret contract terms and conditions preferred.

  • Proficient with Excel, ability to learn proprietary systems and strong technical mindset with ability to understand market data management (MDM) tools and strategies as well as data governance, data integration solutions and other emerging technology initiatives impacting data suppliers.

  • Results-oriented, self-motivated, independent worker with strong critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to identify and rationalize complex problems, work out of your comfort zone, then execute on solutions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and must be comfortable collaborating, influencing and building trust with business partners including senior leaders.

  • Strong attention to detail and customer focused with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines with quality and consistency.
