LSI is currently seeking a mental health professional in Des Moines (Polk and Dallas counties) to work with a team of experienced and licensed clinical supervisors in support of our clients. We are currently accepting applications for full-time and/or part-time hours. State of Iowa fully licensed or temporary licensed mental health therapists (social work, marriage and family therapy, or mental health counseling) are encouraged to apply!

What We Do

The Immigrant & Refugee Community Services (IRCS) Family Wellness team is focused on healing the psychological and psychosocial impacts of trauma among international survivors of human rights abuses, forced displacement as a result of war, torture, persecution, gender-based violence and other forms of interpersonal violence. Our team prioritizes culturally and contextually hospitable, trauma-informed and linguistically accessible psychological and psychosocial care for asylum seekers and refugees from around the world.

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for working with a diverse caseload of refugee and immigrant individuals and/or families who have survived torture and war trauma.

  • Conduct intakes, psychosocial assessments, and diagnosis of clients' history of trauma, acuity, strengths, and therapy needs.

  • Develop family-centered and culturally appropriate treatment plans and provide outpatient services to include: providing individual counseling, family counseling/training, and/or group counseling, school based services.

  • Work closely with IRCS and other case managers on shared cases to oversee that case management services are provided and are relevant to the treatment plan of the client.

  • Provide clients with referrals to services in the community, ensuring that the referral is completed and client is connected.

  • Manage case plan oversight and re-evaluate as necessary to build the best possible outcomes for our clients.

  • Integrate clinical therapeutic modalities (EMDR, DBT, CBT, Narrative Therapies, Play therapy, Somatic, ACT, etc) within a cultural and linguistically hospitable approach.

    What You'll Need

  • A Master's in Social Work or an approved related field (LMFT, LMHC)

  • Must be licensed in the state of Iowa (temporary and provisionally licensed applicants are encouraged to apply!)

  • A valid driver's license, good driving record, and auto insurance

  • Must be able to pass an extensive background check, including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry, and a criminal history check

  • Demonstrate an ability to understand and complete clinical documentation guidelines

  • Experience working with interpreters is preferred but not required.

  • Strong organization and time management skills.

  • Strong computer skills, including electronic client care databases and MS Office software.

  • Demonstrated interest in issues of immigrant communities, political torture, severe war trauma, social justice and human rights issues

  • Fluency in Arabic, Nepali, Burmese, Spanish, French, or other language is preferred but not required.

  • Flexibility is necessary to meet the needs of clients. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
