The Integrity Investigations and Intelligence (i3) team is dedicated to protecting the users of the Facebook family of applications (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus) from dangerous organizations and individuals, human trafficking and exploitation, and crimes against children. We are a mission driven team with a passion for protecting people. We are seeking an experienced Threat Investigator to deeply understand how dangerous organizations, such as global terrorist organizations and cartels, manifest on our family of apps in addition to investigating complex threats, advancing investigative methods, and using innovative research approaches to protect people from credible threats of violence in the real world. You will have the opportunity to work on some of the most challenging, complicated, and high-visibility security risks the company is facing. The impact of your work will be substantial, as outcomes could affect the billions of people who use our products. Required Skills:

  1. Proactively identify credible threats of violence and coordinated networks of dangerous individuals in order to disrupt threats to users

  2. Investigate and understand how dangerous orgs target and facilitate harms against vulnerable populations

  3. collaborate to develop mitigation/prevention strategies

  4. Investigate complex cases to understand in granular detail how abuse is occurring and attribute the person(s) responsible. Identify enforcement strategies to mitigate harm both in the current case and from similar forward-looking abuse

  5. Research how threats show up within the ecosystem and deeply understand how abuse manifests. Discover and clearly explain emerging threats and trends often with an emphasis on geo-political, cultural or societal specific differences

  6. Identify effective strategies to prevent or disrupt abuse at scale. Consult on the design of countermeasures to effect those strategies

  7. Proactively hunt for currently undetected abuse by leveraging internal data, open-source intelligence and third party private intelligence

  8. Address sensitive content issues, including but not limited to graphic images, videos and writings, offensive or derogatory language, and other objectionable material

  9. Prioritize and execute with minimal direction or oversight

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of experience working in intelligence, online investigations, cyber security, international geopolitical, or human rights functions

  2. Proven experience analyzing and mitigating high-impact threats and online threat actors

  3. Experience with data analysis tools and techniques, such as i2 Analyst Notebook, Palantir, Maltego, and successful application of data to inform decision making

  4. Experience quantifying and qualifying assessments and investigations into clear and concise intelligence and/or recommendations

  5. Proven track record of managing and executing on short-term projects such as oncall rotations and intelligence production as well as long-term projects such as victim support initiatives or behavioral detection efforts

  6. Experience conceptualizing, drafting, and presenting tactical and strategic finished intelligence on geopolitical, cyber and/or violent actor behaviors and activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in or knowledge of transnational organized crime investigations, functions

  2. Regional knowledge and/or language skills, especially Latin America, Eastern Europe/Russia

  3. Expertise in the online safety space and protecting vulnerable populations

  4. Experience working or managing projects that have enterprise-wide impact and/or multi-organization cross functional stakeholders

  5. Experience working with a team spanning multiple locations/time zones

  6. Experience with open source investigation techniques and familiarity with a variety of internet research tools

  7. BS/MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Intelligence Studies, Cybersecurity, Criminal Justice, or related field
