Position OverviewThe VP of Global Operations is a senior level executive tasked with overseeing the Operation and Corporate Engineering functions of Kemin. The VP of Global Operations reports directly to the chief executive officer (CEO) and is a member of Kemin’s “Core Team.”

The principle duty of the VP of Global Operations is to ensure the production of Kemin products of the highest quality at the lowest possible cost in a safe working environment. Collectively, Kemin has a staff of more than 1,000 operations employees spread throughout 17 manufacturing locations worldwide. As other Core Team members, the Global VP of Operations should possess advanced business knowledge and extensive business experience to stay abreast of the changing environment within Kemin's marketplaces. The most important requirements for the VP of Global Operations position are leadership skills, business acumen, and operational expertise.

The VP of Global Operations also has the ultimate responsibility to deliver the Big 5 numbers (People Transformed, Sales, Gross Margin, Net Income and Free Cash Flow) of Kemin Industries along with other KI Core Team members. Because Operations significantly impacts Kemin’s cost of goods, the successful candidate will be responsible for several key performance indicators that focus on cost per kg of Kemin products. The Global VP of Operations oversees Kemin’s Engineering department, and therefore has substantial responsibility for process design and control. Much of the company’s annual CAPEX budget will be overseen by this position.

LocationThe position is based in Des Moines Iowa USA, Kemin's WW headquarters.

TravelThis is a global appointment requiring 25% of the VP’s time to travel to global Kemin business units and, potentially, a few customer locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership management and vision to help grow the company toward our Journey to The Vision

  • Deliver Kemin’s business growth and profitability along with other Core Team members

  • Deliver operational efficiency in the 17 Kemin manufacturing locations

  • Bring synergy as an expert change agent on delivering Kemin's sustainability goals.

  • Manage Direct Reports: Campus directors (7), Engineering Director, and Associate Director S&OP

  • Oversee the execution of the CAPEX process

  • Advise the Core Team and Board of Advisors regarding acquisition opportunities

  • Look for new opportunities in process efficiency and process optimization

Qualifications

  • International experience in managing factories. Ideally will have lived in 2-3 global locations for a minimum of 3 years

  • Possess strong interpersonal relations at the senior executive level.

  • Strong business and financial acumen.

  • Has demonstrated success in new technology execution/complex processes/innovation/continuous improvement.

  • Has a history of leadership and people management skills; team engagement & coaching.

  • Experience in decentralized business model.

  • A basic curiosity.

  • Experience in Project Management.

  • Efficiency/cost driven/manufacturing efficiencies without compromising quality/service.

  • Experience in the chemical/food industry is desired.

  • The ability to speak multiple languages is desired.

  • Ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with all levels in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage people in both formal line management and fluid matrix environments; expertise in work with "Circle of Influence" rather than "Circle of Authority."

  • A high degree of personal motivation and a sense of urgency and excitement to make contributions to the Kemin Vision/

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree, preferably in Chemical/Engineering/Science
