Drake University's College of Arts and Sciences is seeking candidates for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Theory, a one-year visiting position which starts late August 2021. The Department of Music seeks a colleague committed to undergraduate teaching and active scholarship. Evidence of outstanding teaching is essential. Teaching load is 3/3 in a two-semester schedule. Review begins July 1; continues until filled. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Minimum requirements include ABD in Music Theory, with preference for completed Ph.D. by start of Fall 2021 term; evidence of effective teaching; commitment to creating an inclusive classroom supportive of underrepresented categories of students; a developed research and writing agenda desired.

Primary responsibilities include teaching within the undergraduate tonal theory sequence, with one section of first-year theory and two sections of second-year theory each semester. Additional responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating the music theory curriculum, and attendance at and participation in faculty meetings. The candidate must demonstrate both commitment to and a record of successful teaching at the University level. The candidate will provide evidence of and an agenda for pursuing scholarly and/or creative achievement at the regional and national level or beyond.
Ph.D. in Music Theory – ABD minimum; completed Ph.D. preferred
