What You'll Do

Principal Financial Group is seeking a VP - Non Qualified & Business Solutions Distribution candidate! This role will provide strategic oversight to ensure Business Owner Solutions (NQ, Life, and DI) in achieving sales and retention goals. Develop a strong leadership team to ensure meeting and exceeding product line sales and retention goals.

  • Build and implement a strategy for distribution of Business Owner Solutions products (NQ, Life, and DI) that is consistent with new sales, retention and profitability goals and objectives that meet the present and future needs of the business unit and Principal Financial Group.

  • Mentor senior leadership team to ensure meeting all goals and objectives.

  • Participate, collaborate, or lead enterprise and business unit initiatives, which ensure horizontal objectives are achieved through use of cross-selling business unit initiatives.

  • Utilize wholesalers to meet objectives. Leverage resources to improve efficiency. Direct, influence and mentor wholesalers. Promote strong internal to external wholesaling team partnerships.

  • Regularly review results and leverage specific actions to take to ensure meeting overall goals and developing future direction.

  • Stay attuned to overall market conditions and industry trends in order to acquire and retain profitable business.

  • Drive solutions across the business unit to help build standard methodologies and improve sales.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent, plus 15+ years related work experience required; non-qualified planning techniques, non-qualified plans, and employee benefits. CLU, CFP, or ChFC designation helpful.

  • Securities exams and IAR appointment include Series 6 and 26 as the need arises by applicable state law to become IAR with Principal Securities, Inc

  • Securities registration is required upon hire

  • Licenses and/or exams vital for this position include: Life and Variable Life insurance license within 60 days of hire with appointment in state of residence

  • Excellent knowledge of COLI & DI, variable life insurance, annuities, and mutual funds required.

  • Highly developed analytical, negotiation, leadership, problem-solving and oral and written communication are required as is a proven understanding of business unit and company products

  • Significant overnight travel is required

  • Non-solicitation agreement required upon hire

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$225000 - $305000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA). You’ll work with your leader to determine which option may align best based on several factors. Open to remote candidates that are willing to have a strong presence at our corporate headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa.
