       Hourly rate: $23.80Hours: 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.Priorities: Applicants must be able to work independently to timely deliver meals, mail and materials to assigned schools; Safe driving record and CDL required; Ability to prioritize deliveries to maintain schedule; and Ability to repeatedly move and secure material in excess of 50 pounds in a safe manner. BASIC FUNCTION:To provide safe, efficient and reliable transfer of meals, school supplies, equipment, records & mail on regular schedule between school buildings. Occasional school bus driving as needed. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS: Qualifications: 1. High School diploma or equivalent2. Clean driving record.3. Ability to repeatedly, push or pull items 50-100 lbs and lift 50+ pounds. 4. Have positive, patient, flexible attitude to work in a structured environment. 5. Ability to keep delivery truck in clean working condition.6. Must have strong communication skills. 7. Ability to prioritize tasks in order of importance during allotted time. 8. Able to meet all requirements of the Department of Education for school bus drivers. Including licensing, training, background checks, drug screens and health standards. Experience: 1. Large vehicle driving experience preferred. 2. Successfully worked in time sensitive delivery environment. 3. Knowledge of the streets and roads of the DCSD area. 4. Some knowledge of automotive mechanics preferred. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:Works with: Food Service Staff, Warehouse Staff, Principals, School Staff, & General PublicSupervises: Security of school meals, supplies, equipment, records & mail transferring between buildings.Reports to: Assistant Manager and Manager of Transportation. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES- Truckers work together as a team to safely and efficiently deliver meals, mail and school supplies between buildings within the district. The trucker is primarily responsible for the safe loading, unloading and security of all items in the vehicle. Prioritizing orders, consistency on route and communicating with others are essential to get products delivered as needed. Truckers are also utilized as substitute bus drivers when the need arises.

  • Maintain a current commercial driver’s license, CDL physical and school bus permit.

  • Observe all state laws and regulations to be a safe, defensive and courteous driver.

  • All employees are subject to pre-hire and periodic background investigation.

  • All drivers are subject to pre-hire alcohol and drug screen at employer’s expense.

  • All drivers are subject to and must report on demand for random or post-accident drug and alcohol testing.

  • Report to work in a timely manner to perform all duties as scheduled.

  • Complete pre-use truck inspection, report any faults to Mechanics.

  • Acquire current knowledge of the roads and streets within the Dubuque Community School District.

  • Use provided route information to run on scheduled time.

  • Use proper lifting technics to safely load, unload and secure heavy food totes, trays, carts, boxes of supplies from food service to schools. Return items as needed.

  • Prioritize trucking orders to complete between route schools, warehouse, print center and Forum.

  • Deliver interschool mail along route.

  • Be able to relate to and successfully communicate with staff to meet the needs of everyone involved.

  • Follow any required special handling requirements that the materials may need.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all records and student information

  • Legibly and accurately complete all required paperwork and record keeping.

  • Report accurate description of child abuse when observed.

  • Keep route or trip vehicle interior and exterior in clean condition.

  • Fuel vehicle, post trip inspection and perform other minor maintenance tasks.

  • Report operational condition to mechanics as needed for repair.

  • Be available and successfully complete all required training.

  • Be able to learn technology requirements as needed.

  • Be able to communicate information clearly and in appropriate, professional manner.

  • Be able to work effectively in stressful, emergency situations when they occur.

  • Report to supervisor any, and all, traffic accidents and/or violations when they occur.

  • Use positive professional attitude with co-workers, school staff, parents and students.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Risk of exposure to extremely hot & cold items.

  • Risk involved with working in a moving environment. Driving in traffic, on highways, side streets, parking lots and loading areas.

  • Acceptable to work in varying temperatures; extreme heat or cold.

  • The ability to work around vehicles with loud, noisy, moving parts.

  • Possible exposure to vehicle exhaust and cleaning supplies.
