Job Description
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking an Education Aide to join the team at the State Training School (STS) in Eldora. STS provides a holistic social, behavioral, psychiatric, academic, and vocational program that utilizes counseling, treatment, and consequences paired with praise for young men, ages 12-18 years old, who were adjudicated delinquent. You will be well served by the existing structure which provides you with administrative office staff and security. We can assist well qualified candidates in education who have a desire to work in a special education to obtain conditional licensure.
This is a close-knit environment with a strong professional learning community structure. There are no extra duties beyond the Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. schedule and you can request to use your vacation time as soon as it accrues. There is approximately 1 month of orientation to become familiar with the school and facility.
Education Aides at the State Training School fulfill several different duties to support the students and the teachers in their work. This position specifically administers different student assessments for the education department, supports the special education staff with their work, and provides classroom supervision.
Transitional services are provided by STS staff as well as contract staff to maximize each young man’s chances for success upon returning to their community.

The successful candidate must possess experience equal to one year of full-time work as an aide in a treatment or habilitative program for the intellectually disabled, emotionally disturbed, physically handicapped, or mentally ill or as an aide in an educational or child care setting.

This includes 3 full size basketball courts, two fully stocked weight rooms with machine and free weights, showers, and lockers. We also provide a cardio roomfor staff onlyfeaturing exercise mats and advanced treadmills and stationary bikes. Usage of these resources is completely free for all STS staff.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Experience equal to one year of full-time work as an aide in a treatment or habilitative program for the intellectually disabled, emotionally disturbed, physically handicapped, or mentally ill or as an aide in an educational or child care setting;
OR
any equivalent combination of the required experience and post high school education may be substituted on the basis that 30 semester hours or equivalent equals one year of experience.
