Job Description
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the team at the State Training School (STS) in Eldora, which provides supportive counseling and behavioral health treatment for young men, ages 12-18, who were adjudicated delinquent. This is a full-time position that generally works Wed. 1:30-8:30 p.m., Thur. & Fri. 10:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., and Sat. 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. There may be times the LPN will be required to work outside of these hours along with covering nurse on call time. This position offers strong opportunity for advancement, growth, and development.
The primary responsibility of the LPN is to provide direct nursing care to the students at STS and educate students and staff. This includes but is not limited to the following:
Assist providers with examination and treatment of students.
Accurately transcribe notes and initiate health care provider orders.
Provide direct patient care and perform nursing procedures including administration of medication, intermuscular and subcutaneous injections, and provision of prescribed emergency care.
Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
Document client condition and progress in appropriate records.
Teach First Aid, CPR, and other assigned trainings.
Work and communicate in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner with internal and external customers to meet their needs with a commitment to quality service.
Display a high level of initiative, effort, and dedication to completing assignments efficiently while working with minimal supervision.
Demonstrate responsible behavior and attention to detail.
Follow policy and appropriately respond to and cooperate with supervisors.
