Custodian Supervisor: Director of Buildings and Grounds Contract Length:260 day Job Classification: Custodial/Maintenance FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Compensation: $25.59

Position Function:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Buildings and Grounds and indirect supervision of the Principal, performs general cleaning and maintenance in school buildings and grounds, maintains equipment in functional condition, and provides cleaning and custodial assistance to students, teachers, visitors and others. Performs related duties and general maintenance work as required.

All positionsassigned 30 or more hours weekly (typically 6 hours daily) are eligible for a fullbenefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance and paid leave.

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with teaching staff, with direction by Head Custodian, Building Administrator(s) and Director of Buildings and Grounds, Building Principal, or designee.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other district staff, students, and the public.

  • Assist with the unloading / loading of freight and materials.

  • Must be capable of working in extreme temperatures, humid, and dusty environments.

  • Must be able to work alone or cooperatively in a team setting.

  • General areas of responsibility include entryways, hallways, stairways/stairwells, gymnasiums, all classrooms, cafeteria, and exterior grounds and walkways.

  • Completes all required training in a timely manner

  • Checks and secures building at beginning and end of shift for the purpose of ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the building.

  • Sweeps, mops, buffs, strips, and waxes floors.

  • Cleans rugs, carpets, and furnishings.

  • Washes walls, ceilings, windows, and doors.

  • Replaces light bulbs.

  • Sets up and breaks down furnishings and equipment for meetings, programs and extracurricular events.

  • Clears snow from entrances and walks, and spreads sand and ice melting chemicals.

  • Performs grounds-keeping duties, clears debris and maintains grounds.

  • Delivers supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms and other areas of the building.

  • Empties wastebaskets; picks up and removes trash and assists in recycling program.

  • Regardless of schedule assigned, has ability to work daytime schedule during summers/school breaks

  • Attends work on a reliable and punctual basis.

Additional Duties:

  • Performs general cleaning, and repair work, particularly during school vacations.

  • Assists parents and other visitors to school buildings.

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment

Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools.

Safety Requirements

Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.

Wears appropriate safety gear.

Must comply with school district's chemical safety program.

Travel Requirements

Occasional travel between schools, or between schools and central office may be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow oral or written work orders from Head Custodian and Administrators.

  • Ability to read write and speak English fluently.

  • Ability to communicate orally or in writing all cleaning, maintenance or repair problems.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.

  • Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.

  • Ability to work above ground from ladders.

  • Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).

  • Ability to use basic technology to communicate through email and utilize the Districts absence management system.

Qualifications Profile:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Previous successful experience performing physically demanding work.

  • Successful experience completing routine work in an independent manner.

  • Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation to/from school buildings.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a Physical Demand Assessment.

  • Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.

  • Holds or able to obtain Boiler Operator certification.

  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.

  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc
