Job Summary
To provide the highest level of education possible to each student by identification of health related barriers and implementing appropriate modification/interventions to reduce/eliminate those barriers and provide optimal level of health and well being to staff and students through the practice and teaching of preventative health measures and increase awareness of wellness in the school environment.
Essential Duties
Implement and identify the necessary treatment, interventions, documentation, and appropriate follow up, (i.e., referrals, development of care plans, consultations, medication administration, daily treatments, emergency triage and protocol) of students and staff who present to the nurses office while maintaining confidentiality consistent with nurses professional code of ethics and FDCS policy.
Administer medications as needed with skilled observation, assessment, and documentation of compliance, side effects, and evaluation of effectiveness with follow up as indicated.
Activates and implements the emergency plan for emergency situations as per FDCS policy.
Documents and files screening results, daily visits, health histories, mandated reportings, consultations, referrals, staffings, accident reports and any health related information as mandated by FDCS policy.
Consultation, implementation, and collaboration with AEA, health coordinator, superintendent, building administrator, community agencies, and staff to provide educational opportunities to staff, students, parents, nurses, and community as indicated by assessment of need, individual situations, and circumstances of each individual school.
Organizes, plans, educates, evaluates and documents the instruction of staff and collaborates, consults, and serves as a resource person with students, parents, medical personnel, community resources, staff and administration in the implementation of a total health program promoting optimal levels of health and well being.
Nurse shall perform, assist with, or implement any other duties, within the legal parameters of nurses licensure, as requested by administration.
Reliable work attendance is required.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications
Current Iowa Registered Nurse License.
CPR certified
Communication Skills
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization. May communicate with parents or guardians of the student(s). Individuals must have effective listening skills.
