       The Glenwood Community School District is currently taking applications for a PreK SpEd Associate L 2/3 at Northeast Elementary for the 2023-2024 School Year. Starting Pay is $14.00/hr.

GLENWOOD COMMUNITY SCHOOLS CLASSIFIED STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Early Childhood Special Education Associate

Qualifications:

  • Prefer previous experience working with children who have special needs

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements: Depends on specific position

Reports To: Preschool teacher

Consults With: Principal, preschool teachers, and other preschool teacher associates

Position Goal: To assist the preschool teacher in maintaining developmentally appropriate classroom activities and learning environment so that children with special needs may learn effectively and reach their maximum potential.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Attendance is necessary to be successful in this position.

  • Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.

  • Conducts learning exercises with individual and small groups of children.

  • Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with other children.

  • Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual children.

  • Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary, this includes safe handling of wheelchairs and other specialized equipment.

  • Helps maintain individual records for each child.

  • Fosters good eating habits and table manners in children.

  • Assists teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.

  • Assists with the supervision of children during regular play periods with the main emphasis being health and safety at all times.

  • Collects and displays suitable material for learning centers.

  • Helps maintain the classroom learning environment.

  • Engages in positive and age appropriate adult-child social interactions.

  • Assists children with toileting and hand washing as needed.

  • Assists teacher with parent support activities

  • Attends training/inservice opportunities as required.

  • Keeps information related to individual children and families confidential.

  • Serves as a resource person, if and when requested, to the child’s staffing team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned.

  • Is able to lift students up to 50 lbs unassisted and move them safely between the floor and wheel chair or other specialized equipment as needed.

  • Is able to get on the floor and get back up unassisted to work with students.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: Days students are in school. Wage schedules shall be subject to annual review and modification by the Glenwood Board of Education or through the collective bargaining process, where one exists. See Preschool Staff Handbook and for specific information regarding employment.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Classified Staff Evaluation.
