Job Description

Looking for the right place to help people learn to cope more effectively with life issues because of an intellectual disability diagnosis, look no further. Glenwood Resource Center (GRC) is a strategic community partner in preparing and supporting individuals to live in the community of their choosing by working with the community to explore all reasonable and appropriate options before a person comes to live on the campus. To this end GRC is looking to add a Resident Treatment Worker (RTW) to their multidisciplinary team of Qualified Intellectual Disability Professionals (QIDPs).

At GRC our staff enjoys an exceptional workplace where mutual respect and support are part of the culture. You'll discover a rewarding environment with a team of dedicated professionals treating adults, adolescents and children with intellectual disabilities. The QIDPs are integral to the successful treatment of our clients, providing care in tandem with all care providers – Psychologists, Physicians, Nurses, Therapists, Pharmacists, Dentists, Dietitians, and Social Workers – to assure the best outcomes.

The RTW will perform basic para-professional nursing or therapeutic work in the care and treatment of residents who are elderly, intellectually disabled and/or mentally ill. The incumbent must have the ability to provide the necessary monitoring, assistance, supervision and activities to meet the residents' daily living needs. Duties will include:

  • Providing health and personal cares to residents

  • Intervening and redirecting behaviors using approved GRC techniques

  • Maintaining a safe and clean environment

  • Providing active treatment by following the residents' daily schedules

  • Interacting with residents with sensitivity, dignity and respect

  • Accurately following all prescribed therapeutic treatment plans

Further expectations include:

  • Communicating pertinent information and maintaining a positive working relationship with co-workers

  • Participating in staff meetings to discuss residents, policies and procedural changes

  • Documenting entries in the residents' electronic record daily

  • Following the supervisory chain of command with job related matters

Additionally, staff will complete in-service, classroom, online and recertification courses to become knowledgeable of all policies, procedures, manuals, work expectations and the Iowa DHS Employee Handbook.

At GRC, we strive to provide holistic treatment utilizing the multidisciplinary model in an integrated approach to service provision. A person-centered approach is our goal in assisting each individual. We rely on our professionals to share their knowledge and ideas and be instrumental in helping GRC be the right choice for Iowans in need of our services.
