Position Summary

The Sanitation Manager provides leadership in all areas of food safety, quality, sanitation, and compliance. Along with the Quality Manager, the Sanitation Manager is a key liaison for regulatory personnel including onsite USDA/FSIS inspectors. Manages 2 nd shift CCRTE sanitation crew and 3 rd shift overnight sanitation/dish room crews to ensure work is performed efficiently and according to food safety standards. Provides oversight to other 3 rd shift employees working in Blast Chill and Maintenance. Sanitation tasks focus on deep cleaning of the machinery but also include all general site sanitation activities. Sanitation programs are core to HACCP plans and key to preventing bacterial problems that can occur in a food manufacturing environment.

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to

  • Oversee sanitation and food safety programs, including implementation, staff training, and documentation

  • Provide sanitation & food safety leadership to the sanitation department and plant

  • Work with HR on hiring, training, evaluating, and developing Sanitation personnel

  • Provide communication between management, quality assurance, and sanitation team regarding food safety programs, and issues

  • Work with USDA, FDA, and state inspectors; perform environmental and product testing samples as needed

  • Answer Non-Compliance Records (NRs) when applicable

  • Maintain/Update Master Sanitation Schedule and food safety plans as requirements/rules and product lines change

  • Assist with annual HACCP reassessment

  • Assure compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs)

  • Use all required safety equipment and consistently follow all food-related sanitation and operating safety guidelines; ensure that sanitation staff does the same

  • Maintain current library of all GMPs, SOPs, and SSOPs; manage GMP training and development programs

Required Skills & Experience

  • College Degree or equivalent in Food Safety related area

  • 5 years previous work-related experience including leading a team in a USDA/FSIS inspected food manufacturing environment

  • Experience with HACCP and the implementation of sanitation planning

  • Working knowledge of food regulations and guidelines as outlined in Title 9 & 21 CFR

  • Ability toeffectively plan for and allocate sanitation workforce

  • Demonstrated commitment to following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and other food safety rules

  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced and changing environment

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Certification in HACCP in cooperation with the International HACCP Alliance

  • Experience in a USDA/FSIS inspected post slaughter operations

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to use hands to feel, grab, or operate objects, tools, and controls while reaching with hands and arms

  • Frequently required to stand, communicate, and listen.

  • Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Able to perform repetitive movements

  • Able to work in variable temperatures (cold/hot)
