Job Description

The Independence Mental Health Institute is seeking applicants for a permanent, full-time Registered Nurse position.

As a Registered Nurse at Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI), you will:

  • Be pivotal to the success of patient treatment in the least restrictive setting possible where the goal is to return patients to their communities.

  • Find an exceptional workplace where mutual respect and support are part of the culture. You will be a member of a team of dedicated professionals treating adults, adolescents and children with mental health diagnoses recover from their illness. Our nurses are skilled at assessment, treatment and crisis intervention.

  • Provide holistic treatment utilizing multidisciplinary teams in an integrated approach to service provision. A person-centered approach is our goal in assisting each individual. We rely on our nurses to share their knowledge and ideas and be instrumental in helping IMHI be the right choice for Iowans in need of our services.

The hospital and the community:

  • The IMHI provides inpatient psychiatric treatment for adults, adolescents, and children. The hospital's mission is to treat Iowans with psychiatric illness and return them to their communities as soon as possible. The hospital serves patients from throughout the state of Iowa. IMHI is operated by the State of Iowa Department of Human Services and has been an important provider of mental healthcare services since May 1, 1873.

  • IMHI is located in Independence, Iowa, a city that invites residents to "celebrate our spirit" and boasts "America's fame is in our name." Independence is located on Highway 20 and is just a short drive from the cities of the Cedar Valley corridor – Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Minimum Qualification Requirements

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator's Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
