Responsibilities

As a HEALTH TECHNICIAN, GS-0640-8 your duties are below; Serves as the subject matter expert and advisor to the commander and staff on the brigade Individual Medical Readiness (IMR) program. Interprets policy and provides procedural guidance to the commander, staff members and individual military members. Keeps current on and ensures the implementation of regulations and directives. Develops guidelines and operational procedures to implement changes to policies and programs directed by higher headquarters. Responsible for the organization's medical readiness programs. Monitors the status of health assessments within the organization and ensures appropriate scheduling and completion. Ensures the timely completion of and reviews LOD investigations. Responsible for collection, input, and management of medical readiness information for the Brigade/Group/Troop Command and subordinate units. Coordinates and ensures the timely and accurate input of data regarding physicals, dental, immunizations, HIV/DNA, and profiling into the automated medical records and management systems. Organizes and researches patient records, extract needed information, and review records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency within established guidelines. Develops and provides IMR reports to subordinate units to support the scheduling of annual medical readiness requirements. Reviews, validates, and forwards requests for temporary and/or permanent medical actions to include profile determination and medical boards. Monitors the execution of all medical readiness events (military and civilian) to ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations and that required documentation is submitted to facilitate payment. Is the subject matter expert for continuing education/certification requirements for enlisted medical personnel and combat lifesavers. Maintains records and analyzes data from the medical occupational data system (MODS). Ensures subordinate unit personnel maintain medical records in accordance with Army regulations/instructions and other established guidelines. May assist with a variety of administrative/clerical support functions to ensure the effective operation of the office. Maintains a variety of files, records, and forms; prepares special and recurring reports; maintains suspense records of items requiring action or replies and notifies staff members when action is required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:**Experience, education, or training which provided a basic knowledge of principles and practices related to the health care delivery system.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: GS-0640-8:Must have at least* 18 monthsexperience in the following:* 1. Experience, education, or training which provided a working knowledge of missions, organizations, programs and requirements of health care delivery systems. 2. Experience analyzing and recommending solutions to complicated problems. 3. Experience developing and implementing various policies and procedures used in the state medical programs. 4. Experience involving various administrative areas such as budget, personnel and public relations within a medical activity.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience -Completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation for GS-5 positions. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Parttime graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of fulltime study at the school attended.

To receive credit for Education, you must provide college transcripts to support your Educational claims.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Employment is subject to attaining and maintaining a secret clearance as required by this position. If the selectee does not possess the applicable security clearance when hired, application must be made within 30 days of the start date. Failure to make application for the required security clearance will result in termination of employment. Failure to complete NGB prescribed courses at the PEC for new FTS personnel within the first year of employment may be cause for reassignment or termination of FTS. ENLISTMENT CASH BONUSES: Acceptance of a technician position may affect any bonus and/or educational assistance that may be applicable. Please contact your Education Office prior to accepting a position with the Iowa Army National Guard. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
