Summary This position, located within Research & Development of the Iowa City VA Health Care System, provides support for projects by working with investigators, project leaders, support staff, associates, and veterans. All duties are performed within established timeframes and according to study & department protocol. Responsibilities NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 13 months). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment. Duties include but not limited to: Data entry; Scanning documents; Corresponding with subjects (i.e. recruitment, follow-up appointments, reminder calls); Answering subject questions; Conducting special consents; Conducting subject interviews; Preparing, maintaining, and updating project spreadsheets; Maintaining study SharePoint calendars; Preparing project materials for mailings, handouts, meetings, etc.; Monitoring and making reproduction requests (i.e. questionnaires, consent forms); Preparing tables and figures for publications and presentations; Abstracting data from medical records; Transcribing; Designing and maintaining filing systems according to protocol; Scheduling subject appointments; Attending project meetings; Conducting literature searches; and Performing other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: TERM position - Monday thru Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Program Support Assistant (OA) Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. Occasionally, light physical effort may be required, such as that involved with walking, stair climbing and carrying of light office items. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Typing Proficiency: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. -AND- In addition to meeting the typing proficiency, to qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must also meet one of the following: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Experience: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4) in Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Program Support Assistant (Office Automation). Specialized experience includes maintaining and organizing an effective and efficient office environment; using a computer to draft, edit and lay out material utilizing Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint; performing office tasks such as filing, data entry, preparing materials for mailings, etc.; preparing correspondence; and utilizing effective communication skills. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. -OR- Education: Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Education cannot be credited without documentation. -OR- Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
