QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must be at least 21 years of age
Obtain and maintain a minimum of a valid Class D3 Chauffeur’s license
Pass pre-employment and subsequent driving history checks
Pass pre-employment and periodic background history checks
Pass a pre-employment substance abuse screening
Pass all random alcohol and/or drug tests
Work well with others, including all personality types
Ability to communicate effectively and de-escalate students and parents
Effective problem-solving skills
Knowledge of, or ability to navigate, Iowa City and surrounding areas
Have and use effective verbal and written communication skills
Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
Effectively manage student behavior
Accept and implement coaching and training
High degree of attention and considerable dexterity in the control of the school van
Practice defensive driving at all times and avoid vehicular and industrial accidents by practicing safe driving and work habits
Proficient with Google drive and database applications
Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspections
Professional driving experience preferred, but not required
Commitment to accuracy and accountability

REPORTS TO: Transportation Coordinator
SUPERVISES: N/A
JOB GOALS: To organize and provide safe and reliable transportation service by operating various vehicles in transporting students to and from school as well as related activities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safely transport students to and from school, activities, etc.
Adhere to an assigned schedule
Arrive at pick up and drop off points in a timely manner
Effectively and appropriately manage student behaviors
Maintain a cooperative attitude and build rapport with students, peers, supervisors, parents, and school personnel
Use effective and professional verbal and written communication skills
Report discipline problems to school official as instructed
Present self in a professional manner including attire and being alert and attentive
Successfully complete all required trainings, meetings, classes and professional development
Work together as a team to keep interior and exterior of vehicle clean, safe and presentable
Quickly and safely evacuate vehicle in case of an emergency
Check student roster to ensure proper ridership
Check vehicle for remaining/lost students, items, etc.
Accurately complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner. Including vehicle maintenance requests, student behavior referrals, directions, etc.
Abide by federal law, state law, and district policies, procedures, and expectations
Utilize technology when required
Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspections
Immediately report any accident or incident
Ensure vehicle is properly fueled according to department policy
Prepare the vehicle for student transport including inclement weather conditions, including scraping or cleaning windows, etc.
Safely and appropriately operate various types of vehicles and equipment including radios, and emergency equipment
Continuous use of hands, fingers, and wrists repetitively
Report any safety or maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
Clarity of vision at varying distances to see small details
Drive a vehicle to conduct work
Clean vehicle as designated by department procedures
Other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Substitute positions work on call as needed. Substitutes in good standing at the end of a school year may elect to return to their subbing position for the following school year.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
