Midwest One Bank EVP/Commercial Banking in Iowa


The EVP, Commercial Banking is responsible for guiding the bank through continued growth and will have significant influence on the bank's strategy going forward. Simultaneously, s/he will be a culture carrier who drives employee engagement, talent retention, and recruitment of top talent. The executive will have responsibility for directly overseeing the commercial market leaders across the footprint as well as the Bank’s Treasury Management and SBA Functions. The EVP, Commercial Banking will direct, administer, and coordinate organizational activities in support of the strategic direction that has been set by the CEO, President, Board, and senior leadership team.


  • Manage and provide direction for the bank's commercial line of business through effective leadership of the company's brand and culture;

  • Work closely with Chief Credit Officer to pursue maturation of the commercial franchise and accelerate quality revenue growth in a customer-centric way;

  • Assist the President with the preparation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets based on strategic corporate goals and objectives, while maintaining an organizational structure which is necessary in order to support the Company’s financial goals;

  • Gain familiarity with the officer and client base--getting to know key clients throughout MidWestOne’s 5-state footprint and the nature of their relationships and customer engagement with MidWestOneBank;

  • Provide leadership in formulating, communicating and achieving the company's vision, mission, strategy, operating plans, and financial goals;

  • Drive growth in profitability and allocating capital according to key priorities;

  • Provide inspirational leadership to MidWestOnecolleagues at all levels of the organization;

  • Attract and strengthen client relationships by investing time with key clients/prospects and maintaining an active roster of high impact externally facing activities;

  • Identify, recruit, and develope strong next generation talent for MidWestOne,building teamwork across core business and functional areas throughout the company;

  • Build on the company's culture of collaboration, and customer stewardship, and provide an environment for personal growth and advancement; and

  • Participate in focused, key community activities/groups in the market area which enhance the incumbent’s leadership role externally and increases visibility for the bank.


B.S. degree in Finance, Business, or other applicable major

More than 15 years of experience in a commercial lending leadership position

Proven success both as a lender and as a manager of lenders, retaining and deepening client relationships, acquiring new clients to the bank, appropriately structuring and pricing loans across commercial segments and using a variety of products, successfully resolving loans with performance weakness, and a strong pattern of partnering across the bank – including credit, back office functions such as documentation and loan operations and compliance, and other lines of business including retail, wealth, and treasury management. Experience interacting with a complex set of external constituents including auditors and regulators.

Extensive financial services experience, in business/commercial banking, with a thorough understanding of the regulatory and competitive environment, key industry players, economic drivers, and operating issues.

A track record of success in growing a team, business function, and financial results. The ability to drive, transform, and improve business performance, with an appropriate and strategic balance of risk and growth. The ability to attract new clients, develop and offer new products/solutions, and continue to enhance customer focus, engagement and delivery. Ability to thrive in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment that requires discipline, perseverance, judgement, and hands-on execution.

Intellectually strong, high level of critical and logical thinking balanced with “real life” pragmatism.

A strong leader and developer of people, able to identify successors to key roles based on a rigorous understanding of capabilities, experience, motivation and career development needs.
