Our Quantitative Genetics and Breeding Systems Team is seeking applications for a Breeding Systems Optimization Scientist to actively participate in the development and deployment of breeding decision systems for various plant breeding activities.

Join our team and leverage your applied skills in decision science, optimization science, and/or machine learning along with your quantitative genetics expertise to solve a wide range of breeding decision challenges.

You will be responsible for developing innovative solutions to support our breeding programs through efficient decision making related to breeding program design and optimization, optimization of selection decisions, optimization of population development activities.

Qualifications

About You:

PhD in Plant/Animal Breeding and/or Quantitative Genetics with demonstrated research experience in applying optimization techniques to breeding and selection.

PhD in Statistical Genetics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research or other quantitative fields are encouraged to apply.

Requirements - What Skills You Need:

• Demonstrated proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages, Python, R or C++ Solid knowledge of heuristic optimization approaches.

• Solid knowledge of linear and non-linear optimization approaches.

• Demonstrated ability to develop optimization solvers using efficient computational techniques.

• Ability to conceptualize complex biological and/or breeding processes and translate them into mathematical objectives with deterministic and/or simulation workflows.

• Experience working across diverse geographies and cultures.

• Strong problem-solving skills.

• Ability to quickly adapt and learn in different situations.

• Ability to critically think through and deliver agreed deliverables.

• Ability to effectively collaborate with other scientists or as part of a cross-functional team.

• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

Nice to have:

• Machine learning experience

• Exposure to artificial intelligence
