The Director of Culinary Excellence at WesleyLife leads the development and implementation of exceptional dining experiences and food services. This role focuses on promoting health, wellness, and hospitality through innovative culinary strategies and high-quality food delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Culinary Leadership:

  • Develop and implement best practices for dining and food services.

  • Serve as the organization's expert for all culinary services, making recommendations to improve and elevate the culinary strategy.

  • Ensure a consistent focus on hospitality, creating memorable dining experiences.

  • Nutritional Excellence:

  • Create and standardize recipes and menu planning to enhance food quality and presentation.

  • Develop WesleyLife Signature culinary experiences and events focused on health and well-being.

  • Implement nutritional approaches that support the organization’s health philosophies.

  • Operational Management:

  • Oversee expense management, purchasing practices, and inventory control.

  • Develop effective food service business practices and leverage economies of scale.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulations and internal quality standards.

  • Innovation:

  • Implement new ideas and practices based on research and trends.

  • Pilot new approaches to extend innovative ideas within food and beverage services.

  • Identify current and future customer needs, finding solutions to elevate services.

  • Team Development:

  • Lead orientation, training, and development programs for food and beverage staff.

  • Partner with the Director of Organizational Learning for ongoing training initiatives.

  • Focus on recruitment, retention, and engagement to improve the work experience for team members.

  • Quality Assurance:

  • Monitor performance through rounding, audits, and compliance checks.

  • Develop action plans to improve performance and ensure alignment with quality standards.

  • Collaborate with Executive Directors and Food and Beverage leaders to achieve optimal quality and safety.

  • Customer Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and customers.

  • Actively seek feedback and integrate suggestions to exceed expectations.

  • Ensure excellent customer service and satisfaction.

  • Partnerships:

  • Develop partnerships with schools, government organizations, restaurants, and other businesses.

  • Elevate and ensure the success of culinary services and hospitality focus.

  • Collaborate with external partners to support overall goals and strategies.

  • Communication:

  • Maintain open communication with food and beverage teams, dietitians, and leadership.

  • Identify and address any issues, concerns, or suggestions related to culinary services.

  • Participate in cross-department or cross-location initiatives as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in culinary leadership and management within a multi-site organization

  • Strong understanding of nutritional practices and menu planning.

  • Excellent organizational and operational skills.

  • Ability to innovate and implement new culinary practices.

  • Strong leadership and team development skills.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.

  • Bachelors or better

Experience

Required

  • 5 years: Must have demonstrated culinary / chef experience in a leadership role, supporting multiple sites within one organization. Experience should demonstrate success in the implementation of new culinary and/or hospitality strategies.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Hotel Restaurant, Hospitality or a related field

Preferred

  • Chef Certification (ACF) is highly preferred.
