Johnston Community School District Elementary Extended Learning Program (ELP) Teacher 2025-26 in Johnston, Iowa

Member of district-wide, elementary team assigned assigned to a grade level band.

Position Criteria

  • Valid Iowa teaching license with K-6 Teacher Elementary Classroom and PK-12 Talented & Gifted endorsements

  • Previous K-6 classroom teaching experience preferred

Professional Performance Criteria - Instructional Process

  • Teaches students in flexible groups, regular classes, and individually, depending upon needs.

  • Participates in the evaluation of students’ achievements and provide feedback.

  • Supports and promotes life-long learning through the ELP goals.

  • Collaborates with teachers to integrate curriculum extensions, enrichment, and acceleration into content areas.

  • Teaching to local curriculum standards

  • Curriculum is presented from whole to part with an emphasis on what students should know and be able to do

  • Communicates learning goals to students and parents

  • Incorporates, on a regular basis, activities for students which require applications of learning

  • Creates a classroom environment that promotes learning

  • Establishes fair and appropriate classroom rules

  • Corrects inappropriate behavior in an appropriate and timely manner

  • Reinforces positive behaviors

  • Consistent in expectations concerning student behaviors

  • Establishes and maintains rapport with students

  • Demonstrates appropriate instructional preparation

Terms of Employment: 194-day contract
