As a Research Associate (RA) at the Johnston Research Center, your role will be crucial. You will play a vital part in activities and make a persuasive case for your contributions. As a member of the Phenotyping/Field Trial team, you will bring expertise to drive advancements. Your responsibilities will span across multicrop and multifunctional areas, impacting various projects. Join us as an RA and make an impact that reaches far and wide.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Participate as a multicrop/multifunction team member for all SPD, Biotech, and other functional accountability. Detailed in Corn, Soy, Wheat, Cropping Systems,etc…

  • May conduct and lead spraying across our research plots. Have or be able to obtain commercial pesticide applicators license.

  • Operator research equipment for planting and harvest.

  • May have to obtain FAA commercial UAS license to fly a drone on research fields.

  • May manage all field and seed treatment chemicals for the research center.

  • Highly desired and strong knowledge around research ag equipment.

  • Able to scout fields, focusing on agronomy pests and diseases.

  • Able to work with team members in driving regional scouting teams.

  • Be able to communicate effectively with all team members/stakeholders to understand both agronomic deadlines and other functional groups deadlines.

  • Work across Johnston team functions to support other activities at the site/along with support of other assigned research projects.

  • Assist with research center projects and research seed production activities, including seed preparation for planting, winter nursery deadlines, seed sampling, and other overall support for the research center to be successful. These are critical times for the success of the research program, so weekend work and overtime will be required during peak periods.

  • Willingness to manage and direct the work of temporary and seasonal employees.

  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment.

Qualifications

Requirements: What You Bring:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture or scientific field preferred.

  • Experience in Agronomy, Biology, Plant Breeding, or a scientific-related field preferred.

  • Technologically Savvy: Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs and capacity to learn new technologies and software. Handling of large volumes of data will be required.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people.

  • Results Driven: Self-motivated and ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem solving. Detail-oriented, strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Safety Oriented: Commitment to excellent safety and risk management practices.

  • Keep in mind, equivalent amounts of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the above requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.

  • Willingness to work in varying environmental and ergonomic conditions including field work, etc.

  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule including overtime hours including weekend work required during seasonal peaks and shift work if needed/applicable.

  • Able to stay overnight during peak periods.

  • Driver's License, acceptable driving record, CMV (pulling pickup bumper hitch/gooseneck trailers)
