Wells Dairy Inc. Sr. Manager Research & Development in Le Mars, Iowa
Provide strategic direction for the R&D team. Responsible for guiding, coaching, and leading the team members to continuously improve products and processes and to introduce and implement new ingredients and technologies.
Responsible for strategic planning, identifying opportunities, asset allocation, and coordinating R&D efforts with customers.
Assist with development and lead execution of long term strategic plans for R&D at WEI.
Provides technical expertise to modify and improve formulation. Understands WEI formulations and manufacturing processes along with the ability to train others. Stays current on technology advancements for application at WEI.
Responsible for establishing and executing product development, Continuous Improvement efforts with R&D and with customers.
Ensures that new and/or improved products and processes are adequately tested to ensure standards of quality.
Manages product development team and works with plant personnel to oversee plant trials and initial production of new product and processes.
Builds strong, effective high performance teams and influences and motivates for strong performance. Improves the performance of others through coaching/feedback and strengthens the quality of talent through assessment, selection, placing the right people in the right positions. Identifies and develops future leadership and improves overall bench strength.
Bachelors in Food Science or Engineering. Masters Degree is preferred. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in the food industry. Experience in product development in fast paced environment. Management experience preferred.
Knowledge - Thorough understanding of product development and how that knowledge can assist business unit teams. Strong technical understanding of foods. Understands team dynamics and has the knowledge to participate in high performing teams. Fiscal intelligence as it relates to project ownership and budgetary opportunities.
Skills - Excellent communication skills, both speaking and written application, problem solving skills. Possess effective organization agility. Solid technical skills.
Abilities - Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in cross functional teams. Delegate and get things done through others. Ability to communicate with a non-technical audience. Flexible and adaptable to change.
