       Marion‌ ‌Independent‌ ‌School‌ ‌District‌ ‌Job Title: MHSAP Supervising Teacher Marion‌ ‌Home‌ ‌School‌ ‌Assistance‌ ‌Program‌ ‌(MHSAP)‌ ‌ Reports to: MHSAP Supervising Coach Compensation: Hourly, MHSAP Teacher Terms & Conditions Status:‌‌ ‌Part-Time,‌ ‌hours‌ ‌vary‌ ‌depending‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌number‌ ‌of‌ ‌families‌ ‌assigned;‌ ‌contract‌ ‌runs‌ ‌from‌ ‌mid-August‌ ‌to‌ ‌mid-June,‌ ‌wage‌ ‌established‌ ‌by‌ ‌Board‌ ‌of‌ ‌Directors‌ ‌ Basic Function: Consulting‌ ‌with‌ ‌and‌ ‌advising‌ ‌the‌ ‌student’s‌ ‌parent,‌ ‌guardian,‌ ‌or‌ ‌legal‌ ‌or‌ ‌actual‌ ‌custodian‌ ‌with‌ ‌respect‌ ‌to‌ ‌any‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌following‌ ‌as‌ ‌requested‌ ‌by‌ ‌the‌ ‌student’s‌ ‌parent,‌ ‌guardian,‌ ‌or‌ ‌legal‌ ‌or‌ ‌actual‌ ‌custodian‌ ‌or‌ ‌as‌ ‌deemed‌ ‌necessary‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌professional‌ ‌judgment‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌practitioner:‌ ‌ ‌

  • Support the missions of both the Marion Independent School District and the Marion Home School Assistance Program.

  • Consult with and advise the student’s parent with respect to any of the following as requested by the student’s parent, or as deemed necessary in the professional judgment of the practitioner:

  • Lesson plans;

  • Textbook and supplementary materials;

  • Educational goals and objectives;

  • Teaching and learning techniques;

  • Forms of assessment and evaluation of student learning;

  • The student’s strengths and weaknesses;

  • Interpretation of test results;

  • Planning

  • Record keeping.

  • Participate‌ ‌in‌ ‌required‌ ‌contacts‌ ‌(face-to-face‌ ‌and‌ ‌non‌ ‌face-to-face)‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌assigned‌ ‌family‌ ‌to‌ ‌provide‌ ‌support‌ ‌and‌ ‌verify‌ ‌educational‌ ‌progress.‌ ‌ ‌

  • Providing formal and informal assessments of the student’s progress to the student and the student’s parent.

  • Annually maintaining a diary, record, or log of visitations and assistance provided.

  • Utilize‌ ‌e-mail‌ ‌to‌ ‌facilitate‌ ‌ongoing‌ ‌and‌ ‌timely‌ ‌communication‌ ‌with‌ ‌assigned‌ ‌families‌ ‌and‌ ‌staff.‌ ‌ ‌

  • Do the necessary research with regard to curriculum options and methods to best support the parent’s educational goals.

  • Participate in staff and team meetings as required by the program director.

She/he‌ ‌will‌ ‌perform‌ ‌these‌ ‌duties‌ ‌with‌ ‌minimal‌ ‌direction‌ ‌and‌ ‌supervision‌ ‌in‌ ‌an‌ ‌effective,‌ ‌efficient,‌ ‌confidential‌ ‌and‌ ‌trustworthy‌ ‌manner.‌ ‌

Evaluation:‌‌‌The‌ ‌MHSAP‌ ‌Director‌ ‌annually‌ ‌evaluates‌ ‌based‌ ‌on‌ ‌job‌ ‌performance.‌ ‌Job Specifications/Qualifications:

  • Current Iowa Teaching License

  • Technology‌ ‌skills‌ ‌necessary‌ ‌to‌ ‌complete‌ ‌tasks‌ ‌associated‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌position.‌

  • Strong‌ ‌communication‌ ‌and‌ ‌organization‌ ‌skills,‌ ‌and‌ ‌ability‌ ‌to‌ ‌interact‌ ‌effectively‌ ‌with‌ ‌faculty,‌ ‌staff,‌ ‌students,‌ ‌and‌ ‌community.‌ ‌

  • Organizational‌ ‌and‌ ‌management‌ ‌skills‌ ‌needed‌ ‌to‌ ‌effectively‌ ‌assist‌ ‌with‌ ‌multiple‌ ‌projects‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌same‌ ‌time.‌ ‌Ability‌ ‌to‌ ‌prioritize,‌ ‌organize,‌ ‌and‌ ‌have‌ ‌excellent‌ ‌attention‌ ‌to‌ ‌detail.‌ ‌

  • Demonstrated ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team

  • Demonstrated interest and engagement in professional learning and reflection

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Iowa Homeschooling Law and Regulations

  • Knowledge of current MHSAP practices and policies

  • Attend‌ ‌professional‌ ‌learning‌ ‌opportunities‌ ‌as‌ ‌needed‌ ‌to‌ ‌stay‌ ‌current‌ ‌with‌ ‌state‌ ‌and‌ ‌federal‌ ‌regulations‌ ‌and‌ ‌requirements,‌ ‌as‌ ‌well‌ ‌as‌ ‌other‌ ‌aspects‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌job.‌ ‌

  • Perform duties as assigned by the Director.
